G . . . I witnessed a young teenager being picked on by an elder (PO) who had a long-time grudge against his father . . . refused him for baptism . . . etc etc. He committed suicide at 17. This was merely a trigger however which gave me enough courage to search . . . and all the other letters followed. I should add . . . he was about the 12th suicide in just over 20 years a JW . . . I wish I'd questioned earlier . . . but don't we all eh?

POLL/SURVEY- Why Did You Leave The Organization of JW's?
by PublishingCult inwhy did you leave the organization of jehovah's witnesses, and/or why are you contemplating leaving the organization of jehovah's witnesses?.
i've tried to boil it down to the most likely answers based on all the reasons i have heard over the years from xjw's.
a. because the watchtower bible & tract society does not have the truth.. b. because i had a personality conflict with other members of the organization.. c. because i discovered that the wtbts was not being honest or forthcoming about its history.. d. because serving jehovah was too difficult and i just wanted to be worldly and do wicked things.. e. because the governing body of jehovah's witnesses have proved to be false prophets.. f. because i found just cause to disagree with erroneous jw teachings.. g. because the governing body and/or elders were hypocritical.

Having family still "in" is a problem I don't have, have never had, and therefore cannot fully comprehend. After visiting this site for a few months, however, I can appreciate it being a problem that must be a regular hassel, not to mention a constant reminder of things you would rather leave behind but can't.
Remember JRK . . . your actions (in assisting your mother) are morally superior to those of your sister . . . elevated . . . take the deserved satisfaction from that and let it override your displeasure . . . your Mum will recognise that and love you all the more for it . . . Additionally when and if things change with your sister . . . you will have no regrets.
All the very best to you . . . you sound like a good person.

. . . there is an absence of parenting factors in my adolescent/post-adolescent past, and that, coupled with the vulnerability I feel on account of the current crises in my life, make a high-control mind-bending parent figure who have my everlasting future all mapped out for me, highly desirable right now.

Can anyone join in here?
I'm not sure if you guys realise . . . but this thread has a distinctly "american" flavor to it. I don't wish to sound patronising, but you do have some distinctive traits . . . but don't get me wrong . . . I love you guys . . . you gave me my old religion after all!
It's all that left-right-conservative-liberal-democrat-republican-bullshit . . . along with the penchant for lauding the views of the talking heads that swoon you over your TV screens . . . and I have to agree with villabolo with regard to the overall debate regarding Glenn Beck . . . he adds nothing.
Back in 1949 a man called Einstein had this to say . . . "A largely unregulated capatalist global economy can only result in the greatest ever tragedy for mankind" (to that effect) . . . he added something like . . . "The increased competition for resources by an ever increasing population will impoverish many and place wealth in fewer and fewer hands"
Yeah . . . over 60 years ago . . . Villabolo's sound presentation re; global warming is simply "hurrying" the process up and bringing the inevitable forward. The global community is heading for unprecedented upheaval . . . but you don't have to be an Einstein to work that out surely to God!
Does it not make sense that future prospects depend more on creating personal circumstances that are most likely to survive that upheaval? . . . than on this . . . .
Let's face it, I'm an opportunist, so I'm also looking at the markets and how this will affect investment opportunities as well. In these situations there are ways to profit from these scenarios. Just thinking about all these things.(Sam Whiskey)
Ahhh yes . . . investment and profit . . . don't you just get giddy with anticipation when you here the words "passive income" . . .
All it really means is "I love getting rewarded for doing fuck all" . . . and lies behind the momentum which drives us onward . . . fantastic!
Getting something for nothing . . . reminds me of a guy called Beck and an old religion I used to belong to.
Shit . . . what does that make me . . . democrat? . . . liberal? . . . actually I'm Tangata Whenua

More successful in life working for someone else or yourself?
by sinis inalthough i have always worked for someone else during my life, with pay and benefits i can't complain about, i'm getting to the point where i am tired of this shit.
i have a co-worker whose wife started a business and within three years is grossing over 1.2 million.. i talked to my co-worker who is going to retire this year (possibly) and he said had he of known in his youth what he knows now he would have worked for himself as that is where the true wealth and independence come from.. my sig other has some business ideas and i am helping her out, so hopefully it will pan out.
i do believe though that having your own business is hard work, but the success or failure is basically on your shoulders.. just tired of the work week rat race... .

I have spent the last 30 yrs being mostly self-employed, but I'm not sure if my experience and thoughts are what your looking for. Nevertheless, I'll offer them for what they're worth.
Looking back, the greatest value for me is the "independence" rather than the "wealth" factor. Working for a wage puts a "value" on your time which is fixed, whereas the independence of being self-employed allows you to use your time for things other than wealth accumulation that you still consider "valuable" ie; family, children, friends . . . even giving time to the other nameless, faceless members of your community.
Certainly, having more resources by way of wealth is desirable . . . but the independence to decide how your resources are expended is of greater value to me, however great or meagre they may be . . . the quality of the "outcome" rather than the level of the "income" . . . if you like. Self-employment and it's independence grants you this privilege to a greater degree for sure. You and yours sound smart enough . . . so give it a go by all means. Good luck.

Here's a couple . . .
There was a young brother named Gordon
Who loved all the WT had taught 'im
When his girlfriend came by
He got kinda shy
So under his 'Penthouse' he stored 'em
Give me your lifetime to borrow . . .
And I promise you no more sorrow . . .
Just listen to me . . .
And my prophecy . . .
The fulfilment? . . . well, that comes tomorrow
